Stucco
Stucco, a kind of commonly used exterior wall covering, is also known as render. It is widely used to create a very dense solid on less visually attractive surfaces, like concrete, brick, adobe surfaces.
As a building material, stucco is characterized by its durability, attractiveness, and weather resistance. It was originally used as both interior and exterior wall covering. Nowadays, stucco is primarily used as an exterior wall coating.

Composition
Traditional stucco is primarily composed of lime, sand, and water. Traditional stucco often adds additives like fibers and Portland cement to increase durability and strength. Traditional stucco has the same primary materials with plaster which is also made of inert materials like sand and lime. However, stucco and plaster are used in different places. Stucco is mainly used for outdoor applications while plaster is used inside buildings.
Modern stucco usually comprises Portland cement, sand, water, and pigments, among others. Lime is also employed to increase stucco's permeability and workability. Modern stucco usually contains additives like acrylics and glass fibers to increase its structural property, strength and flexibility.

History of stucco
The term STUCCO is almost interchangeable with the term RENDER. Render is more popular in Britain and stucco in the United Sates.
Stucco has been widely used for exterior wall coating since the Middle Ages. Stucco can be used as a coarse plaster for covering rough wall surfaces. Meanwhile, it can also be used as a fine plaster, especially one consist of gypsum and pulverized marble, to decorate walls, ceilings, floors, and cornices, etc.
